Add Some Crunch and Spice to Transform Your Next Dish
One of this generation’s emerging condiments, chili oil, is probably going to remain a fixture on our palates for a very long time. Ingredients such as chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, spices, herbs, and aromatics are used to create this tasty, fiery Asian sauce. Along with a variety of seasonings, such as star anise and mushroom powder, some brands will also include MSG in their products to complete the umami profile. The condiment has a silky mouthfeel and a surprisingly peppery bite thanks to the swirling of these tasty, crunchy ingredients in oil. Here are some of my favorite inventive ways to add a surprising layer of flavor and enhance foods using chili oil.
Top the deviled eggs with it
You can add some to your Chili Crisp deviled eggs to make them more interesting. The red hue of the condiment will contrast beautifully with the egg, and its crunch will give your appetizer a little extra texture. There are two methods to include this condiment into your eggs: either spoon it on top of each egg half before serving or whip it straight into the egg yolks and mayo.
Warm up your dips
Your refrigerator’s condiment shelf can help your dips a little. For instance, Chili Crisp Oil adds a fiery touch to Greek yogurt dipping sauce. The acidic and creamy flavors and mouthfeels of the yogurt itself will contrast with the spicy undertones of the condiment. You may use the yogurt as a marinade for meat or as a pita chip dip after combining it with your chili oil.
Improve the spicy profile of the ramen
It is as if ramen was designed with chili oil in mind. It adds more aromatics to the broth, such as ginger, garlic, and onion, and gives the whole dish a warming touch, making it the key component for more tasty ramen. In addition to serving as a canvas for Asian flavors, the condiment adds texture to a soupy concoction of soft vegetables and noodles. While the soup base is boiling, you can emulsify the oil in the broth to add chili oil to the ramen. Alternatively, you can take the easy route and simply sprinkle a teaspoon of chili oil on top of your bowl. For added protein flavor, we also suggest frying your fried egg topping in chili oil.
